I have just returned from the Chatham and Windsor Districts Grand Master’s Receptions, which were wonderful events and the organizing Committee members should be justly proud of their efforts. The Ladies were present on both occasions and their presence added immeasurably to the celebrations of commitment, made by both our Grand Master and Mrs. Lyn Shand, to and for the betterment of the membership of this Grand Jurisdiction, both here in Ontario and globally in the World of Freemasonry. The more a Mason travels the more he comes to appreciate and expand his knowledge not only of Masonry but of the good that is being done in the Communities in which the Lodges of this Jurisdiction reside. Yes, the good that the Brethren and their families do is quietly done, and in most cases without fanfare nor thought of recognition or reward, from the members of those Communities. Three cases in point, one of which is featured in this Issue; "Blind Determination," relates a wonderful contribution of time and talent, by a Brother who is sight impaired, to the Community in which he resides. The second which will be featured in the Fall 2003 Issue is the "Transportation Unit." of Smith Falls, which provides much needed transport for individuals who are stricken with cancer, requiring assistance to get to and return from their Hospital appointments in the Kingston and Ottawa areas The third which will also be featured in that Issue is the "Aluminum Can Drive," by the members of Chatham District; which I understand raised in excess of $132,000 for charity in 2002. The Brethren in these Districts should be applauded for their excellent efforts in making contributions of their time, talent and energy for the betterment of the Communities in which they reside. |
The Masonic Foundation outlines the incentives being offered, in support of Charitable initiatives, available to the Districts, in celebration of our 150th Anniversary as a Grand Lodge in this Issue. And I encourage your Lodge and District to become active participates of these incentives - "for the cause of good." If you know of a district or lodge in the Jurisdiction who are involved in the contribution of their time and talent for a worthy cause, kindly contact me so that their good works and unselfish contributions to the Communities in which they reside may be recognized in the Ontario Mason. I would also mention that a request has been submitted by the members of the London East and West Districts of Grand Lodge to have included in each issue of the Magazine, the names of the newly Initiated Brethren of the Jurisdiction along with their District and Lodge identities. The Magazine Committee feels that this is an excellent concept, space permitting, and I encourage all Districts in the Jurisdiction to send along that information for publication consideration, to me care of the Editorial Department 363 King St., W., Hamilton, L8P 1B4, or e-mail me at drddd98@sympatico.ca In closing, remember this is your Magazine enjoy and contribute to it. Brotherhood of Man B.B.Q. Prince Hall Masons, Knights of Columbus and Odd Fellows will be joining with us. Tickets are available from any Grand Lodge Officer. |
