FROM THE GRAND MASTER

Brethren, we are now entering that time of year when a long winter is drawing to a close and spring, the time of change, of new growth and renewal is upon us.

With the advent of a new season the dormancy and sameness of winter is eliminated, new growth appears and there is a new vibrancy to life. Those who have been shut in during the winter months are able to get outside once again and life not only begins again but also seems to take on a new purpose.

So too should it be with Freemasonry. Now is the time to put the lethargy that is a concomitant of winter behind us and pursue our activities with a new sense of purpose and vigor.
Your attendance at lodge is encouraged and your active participation will be welcomed.

There is a current story making the rounds which is as follows:
When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world; as I grew older and wiser, I discovered the world would not change so I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country. But it too seemed immovable; as I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me, but alas, they would have none of it. And now as I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realize: if only I had changed myself first, then by example I would have changed my family. From their inspiration and encouragement I would have been able to better my country. Who knows, I may even have changed the world.

Freemasonry offers us the tools by which to become better men and better citizens. All we have to do is inculcate those virtues of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth and put them into daily practice.

By changing ourselves fi rst we may then be able to change the lives of those around us. Who knows, if we let our lights shine, then we may even make some appreciable change in the world.

Let us go forward therefore, with a determination to show the world that Freemasonry has something to offer for the betterment of all mankind. All it will take is for you to become a living example for others to emulate.
